HUNDREDS of people turned out to pay tribute to soldiers who risk their lives for the country.
The crowds were out in force on Canvey and Southend to pay tribute to the servicemen and women during celebrations for Armed Forces Day.
In Chalkwell Park, Southend mayoress Jane Norman fired a 25-pounder field gun to signal the start of celebrations on Saturday.
Her husband, and mayor, David Norman, made a presentation to veterans at the forces fair.
Southend’s celebration continued yesterday, where a parade took place along the newly-refurbished Marine Parade and City Beach area of the seafront.
Hundreds watched as the parade made its way from the pier to City Beach, where a service was conducted by the Rev Frank Smith.
On Canvey, there were similar scenes on Saturday, where marchers set off from the Knightwick Centre to the Paddocks.
Heading the parade was the band of the Air Training Corps.
