THE death of cricket legend Trevor Bailey has been recorded as a tragic accident.
The inquest into Mr Bailey's death was held this morning at Southend Coroners' Court.
Mr Bailey died aged 87 when fire engulfed his flat in Alston Court, Crowstone Road, Westcliff, in February.
The former Ashes hero and Essex cricket stalwart died of smoke inhalation the inquest heard.
He died while trying to fight a fire in his kitchen and it is believed the blaze may have started in a toaster.
Coroner Dr Peter Dean recorded a verdict of accidental death.
