A FISHERMAN had to be rescued after being spotted on a structure more than a mile offshore in Shoebury.
Thames Coastguard were called out shortly after 8.30am on Thursday morning to reports of a male being seen near the waters edge at the end of Shoebury Boom.
He was spotted by officers at the nearby Ministry of Defence ranges and concerns were raised for the person’s safety because the tide was coming in at the time.
Coastguard crews from Southend were sent out to rescue the man along with the Southend RNLI Hovercraft and officers from the MOD site.
When the hovercraft got to the person, they found out he had been fishing in what was termed as a “danger area” by the coastguard.
He was taken back to shore where he was interviewed by police before being given safety advice by the coastguard about fishing in the area.
