HIGH-RANKING figures in Essex were given a tour of Canvey’s hotspots.

Canvey councillor Ray Howard showed Lady Ruggles-Brise, the High Sheriff of Essex, and Joanna Killian, chief executive of Essex County Council, around the island to see the investment work taking place.

Some of the sites visited included the Dutch Cottage Museum, in Haven Road, the Thames Ambulance service, in Charfleets Service Road, and Thorney Bay beach and caravan site, off Thorney Bay Road.

Lady Ruggles-Brise said: “I have never been to Canvey before, but everyone I speak to about it always talks very highly of the island and how special it is.

“I have been shown the wealth of progress being made to take Canvey into the 21st century, whilst still preserving the ethos of the island.

“I can see people are proud to be living here.”

Local councillors Pam Challis, Jeffrey Stanley, Jackie Govier, Brian Wood, Joan Liddiard and David Blackwell also took part in the visit, as well as Castle Point Council’s chief executive David Marchant.
