A HOMELESS man wanted in connection with a string of burglaries is being hunted by police.

William Coe, 20, is sleeping rough and detectives believe he carries out the break-ins to earn cash.

He is alleged to have burgled at least a dozen homes in Pitsea and Wickford.

Detectives claim Coe is thought to pick homes which have uPVC front doors, which he forces open to get inside, before carrying out “methodical and tidy” searches of properties as he hunts for things to steal.

They also claim Coe always strikes during the day, while homeowners are at work.

Police have already raided several homes in the hunt for Coe, but have not found him so far.

They have now released his picture and are asking the public to help.

Investigating officer, Det Con Daryl Fryatt, said: “William is sleeping rough and we believe he is committing crime to fund his lifestyle.

“We have executed warrants at various addresses and tracked down his ex-girlfriend for more information.

“However, these leads have so far proved unsuccessful, so we’re hoping people can help us.”

Coe, who is white, 5ft 8ins tall, slim, with short, shaved, black hair and a pale complexion, is know to have links to the Felmores, Pitsea and Wickford areas.

Det Con Fryatt added: “The message to burglars is: We will catch you.

“We know who you are, and if you offend, we will cause you grief and embarrassment.

“Our message to homeowners is please take simple measures to make it more difficult for anyone weighing up whether to have a go at your home.”

Anyone who spots Coe can contact police at Basildon on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
