REPRESENTATIVES from two seperate residents’ groups will urge councillors to reject a controversial licensing application for a wider range of hazardous chemicals to be stored at a Canvey depot.

Oikos lodged the application with Castle Point Council to store a wider range of flammable fuels and chemicals at its storage plant off Haven Road, Canvey, in January.

This will finally be considered by councillors on Tuesday (Dec 6) evening.

Representatives from two different residents’ groups oppsoed to the applicatino will speak at the meeting, before councillors cast their votes.

The groups are called Canvey Action Group Against Oikos and People Against Methane.

A spokeswoman for Oikos said: “The Hazardous Substance Consent application has been made to ensure complete transparency with regard to the type of fuels stored at Oikos and to fully comply with the existing regulations which have been in place since 1992.”

The meeting at the council offices, off Kiln Road, Thundersley, will start at 7.30pm.
