A TEENAGE worship leader is celebrating the huge success of his debut single.
Matt Key, 17, only released This isn’t Christmas on Monday, but is already topping the Christian and Gospel music chart.
The Southend High School for Boys’ pupil shunned record labels or a recording studio and wrote, played, produced and promoted the track single- handedly from his bedroom in Rochford.
The thought-provoking lyrics and “unique’’ sound helped the record sell more than 850 copies in under 36 hours, and its popularity is set to grow.
Matt, a worship pastor at Hawkwell Baptist Church, in Rectory Road, Rochford, said: “The song aims to show the real meaning of Christmas, and contrasts it with how today’s society portrays it.
“It is a real demonstration of how, with determination, talent and prayer, even an average 17-year-old boy can attain considerable musical success.”
