SPEEDING motorists are being targeted as part of a police operation across Hadleigh.

A flood of complaints from residents about dangerous drivers has led police to lay strips on three roads that monitor how fast motorists are travelling.

The Echo has not named the roads as police fear drivers would slow down if they knew and therefore not give an accurate picture.

PC Adam Clark said he expected the results to be a more accurate reflection rather than using speed detection guns.

He said: “When we do that you’re standing out in the middle of the road in a fluorescent jacket and people can see you for miles, so they’re not going to speed.”

He said one of the roads had a 20mph speed restriction outside a school which was being ignored.

He said: “People are not only doing over 20mph but over 30mph as well.”

Two 30mph limit roads in Hadleigh highlighted by residents are also being targeted.

While he encouraged speeding drivers to slow down and be safe, he said it wasn’t a huge concern for police in the area with previous tests recording relatively low results and the odd few speeding drivers.

PC Clark will reveal the results of the operation at the next community policing meeting at Westwood Primary School in Beresford Close on December 13 at 7.30pm.

He urged residents to raise any concerns they have about crime in the Hadleigh area.

Police will then select three issues as their priorities over the following month, taking in Christmas and New Year.

PC Clark, added: “Most of the issues brought up in Hadleigh are about speeding and parking where asin other areas they tend to be more serious crimes.

“It’s a nice town and if all they’re concerned about is speeding and parking, that’s a very good thing.”
