A WOMAN who is still not getting her Royal Mail deliveries says she has done all she can to bring her road up to scratch.
Jacqui Thornton’s is one of six properties where mail deliveries are continuing to be temporarily suspended because of the bad condition of some unmade roads in Castle Point.
Mrs Thornton, from Catherine Road, Benfleet, has been told by Royal Mail she won’t get her post delivered again until the road is repaired.
However, she claims the road is looked after.
She said: “My neighbour and myself regularly pay to have the road chipped up in front of our properties, but drivers have still got to negotiate over a half a mile of imperfect road.
“Who is responsible for the rest of the road?
“I’ve asked for the Royal Mail health and safety report assessment to find out what needs to be done, but I’ve got nothing back from them.
“They should be letting us know.”
Six properties in Catherine Road and Fane Road are affected by the suspensions, which have been ongoing for six weeks.
Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris said the decision to resume deliveries to most residents was a victory for common sense.
She added: “I will continue to work on behalf of the few remaining households who Royal Mail still believes is too risky to deliver to and I am confident that a suitable solution can be found for them as well.”
Royal Mail spokeswoman Sally Hopkins said: “We are keen to meet those customers to discuss those issues further.
“The roads are in a poor condition so we are unable to deliver to them at the moment.
“It’s up to residents to contact us.”
Mail deliveries will resume for more than 120 residents in 13 streets today.
It comes after public pressure forced Royal Mail to order a second health and safety investigation which found no issue with delivering to the majority of properties, backtracking on their month-long ban.
An initial investigation found slip and trip hazards for posties and potential for damage to delivery vans because of the bad condition of some unmade roads.
