COMMUTERS could experience disruptions at Christmas, after railway engineering work on the main line into London was announced.

Network Rail plans to replace overhead cables on the London Liverpool Street to Ipswich line on Tuesday, December 27 and between New Year’s Eve and January 2.

Passengers travelling from Colchester and through Shenfield will have to use replacement buses during their journeys. Engineering work on the line was carried out last Christmas, but there were problems testing the cables, causing chaos for commuters heading back to work.

Network Rail says the £200million project will replace outdated equipment and says there will be a 35 per cent increase in the number of trains running compared with last year.
