AVERAGE speed cameras have been installed on Southend’s seafront this week.
The cameras, which will enforce the new 20mph limit along the Golden Mile, were approved by Southend Council in September.
They have been funded by Southend-based Olympus Keymed and are due to be switched on in January.
Council chiefs first pitched the camera plan in June, after the speed limit along the seafront was reduced to 20mph.
A speed survey along the stretch of road found motorists’ average speed was between 18mph and 21mph. However, police deemed the 20mph limit unenforceable unless cameras were installed.
