c2c trains between Southend Central and Shoeburyness were suspended after a lorry hit a railway bridge in Thorpe Bay.
The articulated lorry struck the bridge near the train station just before 2.30pm today. Passengers had to sit on a train while engineers from Network Rail made sure it was safe for the train to carry on.
Services were back to normal just before 4.30pm today and there were no reported injuries.
