FIFTEEN police officers were injured during skirmishes on the first day of the eviction at Dale Farm.
Most were struck by hurled missiles, including bricks, bottles and lumps of concrete.
In one case an Essex Police officer received cuts and bruising to his throat and shoulders after being struck by a man weilding a lump of wood with nails jutting out of it.
The details are laid bare in a report just published by Essex Police.
It reveals up to 709 officers from forces across the country were involved in the operation each day and half of Essex Police’s £2.4million cost went on hiring officers from other forces.
Special report in tomorrow’s Echo.
