A NEW face has been elected to Leigh Town Council.
Syrie Cox, of Leigh Hill, Leigh, has been voted on to the council to represent Bonchurch ward following an election last Thursday.
The election was called after Mike Dolby, one of the council’s original members from its foundation in 1996, resigned in January.
Mr Dolby, 73, of Southsea Avenue, Leigh, stood down saying he had become disillusioned with the council.
Mrs Cox, an Independent, secured 51.7 per cent of the vote and beat candidates from Labour (24.9 per cent), National Front (1.1 per cent) and English Democrats (22.3 per cent).
There were 269 votes cast from an electorate of 1,134 people.
