One of our reader letters this week has highlighted the number of potholes in a busy Basildon road:
MANY thanks for highlighting the potholes on Whitmore Way in Basildon through reporter Sophie England, who had spoken to me prior to her article in Echo on May 3.
I can say for sure that it was due to your sincere efforts that the craters have been sorted on the road and it is almost back to normal (except for a major one near a mini-roundabout - and that might have been left on purpose to serve as a stark reminder for how life once existed on that road!).
We need more of your help in sorting out the abysmal state of a lot of roads in Basildon.
Could the Echo highlight Uppermayne in Basildon (at the back of the town centre)? It is possibly the worst road to drive on in Basildon and one would lose count of the number of big craters on it.
It is bad publicity for Essex as a whole, and anyone driving from another county would laugh at this. This needs emergency attention.
The other road is the slip road that brings you onto the exit for Billericay when you are driving from Mayflower retail park.
