Popular ITV crime drama McDonald & Dodds is back for a brand new series this weekend.

Returning for series four, the whodunnit show welcomes back cast mates Jason Watkins and Tala Gouveia in the title roles as well as supporting star Claire Skinner.

Series four of McDonald & Dodds will kick off with a head-scratching case for the pair after recently tying up a case of a local scandal-breaking journalist who died of anaphylaxis at a party in her home, the detectives move to the cast of a woman who has been found dead in a rented flat.

With all clues of the victim's identity removed by the killer, recovered DNA reveals that she's a missing person who vanished on her way home from school more than 35 years ago.

McDonald and Dodds are tasked to navigate the tightly wound social circles of Bath's elites to find the truth behind the mysterious murder.

The first episode of ITV’s series 4 is written by Robert Murphy, who also created the popular series.

Murphy has also worked on a number of other shows including Inspector George Gently, Vera, Shetland, Strike Back, Cape Wrath and more.

McDonald & Dodds, described as the queen and king of the leisurely two-hour crime drama by Radio Times, returns to ITV on Sunday, July 21.

The drama will air from 8pm until 10pm over three consecutive weeks at the same time for its three episodes.
