SOUTHEND United striker Gavin Tomlin feels the best has yet to come from his partnership with Britt Assombalonga.
The duo have linked up will together in attack this season and both scored two goals in Saturday's 4-1 win at Torquay United.
But Tomlin is adamant the duo can still do even better.
“Things have gone well so far but I do feel we're capable of more and that the best is yet to come from us,” said Tomlin.
“We haven't linked up together as well as I think we can just yet and that's good because we know we can do better.
“However, it was great for us both to score twice against Torquay and we want to keep getting more goals now.”
After scoring twice against the Gulls at the Plainmoor Stadium, Assombalonga has now hit the back of the net 11 times this season.
Tomlin has been less prolific, scoring four times.
But the 29-year-old feels his luck is now starting to change in front of goal.
“It's been frustrating so far this season because I've come close to getting goals so many times but it was great to get two against Torquay,” said Tomlin.
“I'd been hitting the post or having the keeper make saves so to see the ball hit the back of the net was very nice indeed.
“After the first one went in it boosted my confidence and I was able to keep my composure for the second.
“I'm feeling like my luck is starting to change now and want to get a few more goals.”
Tomlin's next chance to score will come at AFC Wimbledon tomorrow night.
And the striker is desperate to see his side impress against the Dons who are currently 20th in the League Two table.
“We've done well against the top teams away from home but we need to do it against the ones down the bottom,” said Tomlin.
“Wimbledon are a good team so it will be a real test for us but I think we need to have a different mentality against the lower teams and once we do that we'll be flying.
“Touch wood that can start tomorrow and we can keep this good run we're on going.”
Tomlin will also be fit to face AFC Wimbledon, despite coming off with a slight back problem against Torquay.
The forward was replaced by Barry Corr midway through the second half.
But Tomlin confirmed he would be able to stay in the side.
“My back stiffened up and I came off as a precaution,” said Tomlin.
“I'll be fine for Tuesday's game and can't wait to get back out there again.”
