SOUTHEND United midfielder Kevan Hurst will be aiming to assist his team-mates once again when Rochdale visit Roots Hall tomorrow.

Hurst has already made 11 goals for Blues this season, more than any other player in the professional leagues.

But he is determined to keep on more creating chances to help Paul Sturrock’s side continue their charge up the League Two table.

“I’m pleased with how things have gone and the assists I’ve got but I’m not finished yet,” said Hurst.

I had a target at the start of the season I wanted to reach and I’m getting closer to it so I want to keep it going.

“I want to help us score even more goals to help us keep on winning games because that’s what matters the most.”

Hurst made all four of Southend’s goals in the 4-0 win at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night.

That helped Blues move up to eighth in the League Two table.

And he is now eager to impress against a Rochdale side who remains two places higher than their hosts this weekend.

“Rochdale have been doing well and have had a similar record to ourselves just recently so this will be a hard game,” said Hurst, 27.

“However, things feel right for us now and are falling in to place so hopefully we can keep it going.”

Hurst will also be looking to maintain his good form and boss Sturrock has revealed the winger will be visiting Roots Hall today to practise his corner taking routine in order to make goals for his team-mates.

“Taking corners at Roots Hall is very difficult because you have to take a step up in the middle of your run up so Kevan will be there today practicing,” said Sturrock.

“He’s done well for us though and I’m pleased with his assists.

“With Ryan Hall leaving I knew we had to bring in someone who could deliver the ball and Kevan has done that for us so far.”

Hall, who joined Leeds United from Blues earlier on in the season, had 19 assists last term and also made more goals than any other player in the top four divisions.
