Anelka would be right for Hammers

I HOPE the reports linking West Ham with Nicolas Anelka come to something because he is a player I rate highly and could be just what the club needs.

I’ve seen us linked with Darren Bent too, and although he’s a good player I’m not sure he would be right simply because he’s likely to cost a fortune.

We do need to get a striker in who is going to regularly weigh in with goals.

Andy Carroll has had a positive impact and it was good to see him get his first goal against Spurs but, to be fair, it was about time.

I think the service to Andy has been good enough for him to have a few more by now, and the team has been too reliant on Kevin Nolan.

We’ve made a good start to the season but we need to address the problem of scoring goals so we need the right striker brought in, and for others in the team to start chipping in too.

Good signs at Old Trafford

WHEN you lose it’s never a good result – even at Old Trafford.

To be fair, we don’t have a good record against United over the years, and moments like Paolo Di Canio’s goal against them remains a rare highlight.

And when they scored early on Wednesday I did fear it might be an avalanche.

So the fact it finished 1-0 and we had chances to perhaps get a draw means there were some good signs for Hammers fans.

But just because you can say it was respectable, it was still a defeat.

That’s two defeats on the bounce and we have some tough games coming up.

West Ham have already shown in their performances against the likes of Unirted, Manchester City and Arsenal that they can compete well against the top teams.

But now we need to make sure we’re happy with the result and not just a performance after the Chelsea game.

FA need to look at inappropriate chanting everywhere - not just West Ham

OF course we don’t want supporters at West Ham signing things like they did against Spurs - but I think the club has been harshly treated here.

It’s not right, but this sort of chanting happens week in and week out at clubs up and down the county.

You would only need to go to Old Trafford to hear the stupid stuff that gets sung about the Munich air disaster.

It’s all been going on since I was playing, and the FA know it is a long-standing problem, so why this incident has attracted so much publicity I don’t know.

Like I said, I don't condone what happened, but I do think it has been blown out of proportion.
