GOALS from ex-Billericay Town striker Billy Bricknell were enough to send his former side to their fourth straight defeat.

The team sitting in third place in the table beat struggling Billericay for the second time in 11 days having won 4-1 on November 20.

Dover started producing fluid passing moves from the off, spreading the ball and Town’s defence around.

The visitors took a deserved lead in the 13th minute when Daryl McMahon’s shot was saved well by Nathan McDonald, only to see Bricknell run in to hit the rebound into an open goal.

Dover continued to dominate as Billericay struggled to keep the ball and Ben May, brother of home forward Jay May, should have scored, but volleyed over from six yards out in the 24th minute.

His sibling came close to equalising in the 30th minute when he got a head to Lechmere’s cross, but his effort fell onto the top of the bar.

Billericay came out in the second half playing much better football, pressing Dover hard, but were not able to produce many chances.

A big delay came halfway through the half when Glenn Poole had to be stretchered off after colliding with Bricknell, helping contribute to 10 minutes of extra time at the end of the match.

The winner came in the 80th when Bricknell ran onto a through ball before lifting a well executed finish over McDonald.

A tense finish ensured when Rob Swaine, who had been dropped from the starting line up, came on as a substitute for debutant Paul Rodgers and headed Lechemere’s corner in.

The home team could not find an equaliser though, but boss Craig Edwards believes his side do not have to change much to get back to winning ways.

Edwards said: “We don’t seem to be getting the rub of the green of the moment, but the effort of the team was incredible.

“If they go out and play like that next week we could get a result.

"We bossed the second half and I think we deserved a point.”
