SOUTHEND United striker Barry Corr has spoken of his relief at having the controversial red card he received at Hartlepool last weekend rescinded.
The Irishman had been facing a three-match suspension after being sent off following an innocuous clash with Hartlepool defender Jack Baldwin.
But his dismissal has now been quashed and Corr is delighted to be able to take on Northampton Town at Roots Hall this weekend.
“I’m obviously very pleased that the red card has been overturned,” said Corr, 28. “I just couldn’t believe it when I was sent off but they have admitted to their mistake and now we can just move on.
“The officials probably have the most difficult job on the pitch on a Saturday and will some-times make mistakes.
“I’m just glad it’s been rectified now because at half-time at Hartlepool I was just sat there and didn’t have anything to say.
“I was just gutted thinking about the three games I was going to miss and how that would’ve been almost a month of the season.
“But I’m very pleased that’s not going to happen now.”
Corr’s mood improved when his Southend team-mates were still able to secure all three points at Victoria Park.
Blues played the entire second half with only 10 men and Corr was chuffed to see them hang on to their narrow 1-0 lead.
“The most important thing was that the lads put in an incredible performance and held on to win the game and pick up the three points,” said the striker.
“As they were going back out I spoke to Dan Bentley and a couple of the defenders and said ‘please do me a favour out there this half’.
“They did just that too and were absolutely brilliant.
“They defended really well and Hartlepool never really looked like scoring.
“If we had lost the game it would’ve been gutting but the lads did really well to pick up the three points so no harm has been done.
“I was just disappointed to miss the whole of the second half as I would like to have got on the scoresheet.”
Corr will now be looking to make amends when the Shrimpers host Northampton Town at Roots Hall this weekend.
And he cannot wait to take on the Cobblers.
“Northampton are a strong side and Saturday will be tough but, after thinking I was going to miss the game, I’m really looking forward to it,” said Corr.
“Hopefully I can find the back of the net and help us to another three points because I owe the lads slightly after their performance at Hartlepool.”
