DANIEL Brown admits it is all to play for after taking fourth place at the weekend as the British GT Championship builds to a climax.
The Billericay racintg driver secured his first pole position in the series this year at Brands Hatch and finished the two-hour race in fourth place.
That has left Brown in sixth place in the standings with fellow 888Optimum BMW driver Steve Tandy with three races to go.
“I was happy with fourth place because it meant more points and I’m not too unhappy with sixth place in the championship,” said Brown.
“I am less than 30 points off the leaders (Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam) with nearly 100 points to be won.
“So it’s certainly all to play for.”
Brown put his BMW Z4 on pole nearly half a second ahead of the field in qualifying. Team-mate Tandy started the race was dropped to second on the first lap.
He was running third when the team pitted and Brown took over behind the wheel. He had to sit out a 15 second time penalty awarded because they had a podium finish last time out at Snetterton.
Brown rejoined in sixth place and climbed back up to third and was pushing for second when he hit oil at Graham Hill Bend and went wide, allowing the Ecurie Ecosse BMW of Marco Attard and Oliver Bryant through to finish third.
“We knew the BMW would be a good car around the GP circuit at Brands and were confident of qualifying in the top five,” Brown added.
“It felt like a good lap, but I felt I had done better, so to be 4/10ths quicker that the rest was great.
“Having the 15 second penalty was frustrating and it was really annoying hitting the oil. I spent the remainder of the race on his bumper – but I couldn’t get past.”
Brown will be hoping to get back on the podium when he heads to Zandvoort in Holland for two races next month.
