JOHN White is aiming to skipper Southend United to their best start to a season in 23 years with victory against Northampton Town at Roots Hall tomorrow.
Not since 1990 have the Shrimpers won their opening three league games of a new campaign.
But, having already beaten both Plymouth Argyle and Hartlepool United, Blues will be bidding to make it a hat-trick of triumphs when they host the Cobblers.
“We want to make it three wins in a row and carry on doing what we’ve done before already this season,” said White, 27.
“It’s been a very pleasing start with us winning both league games but there are still little things to work on which will improve us a team and as a unit.
“That’s what we will be hoping to do but we’re looking good at the moment and everything is positive so we want to keep that going by beating Northampton.”
However, the Cobblers reached the play-off final last season, where they were beaten by Bradford City.
White is therefore expecting a difficult encounter and he knows exactly what to expect from their manager Aidy Boothroyd who he worked with during his time at Colchester United.
“Aidy is a good manager and his teams are always well organised,” said White.
“He likes to get his players behind the ball and for them to get the ball in to the other half and start playing from there.
“It will be a big test for us but it’s one we’re looking forward, especially as our confidence is high after the start we’ve made.
“We’ve kept two clean sheets so it’s very pleasing from a defensive point of view and hopefully we’ll be able to make it three tomorrow.”
However, Northampton will have other ideas and will visit Roots Hall on the back of beating Newport County 3-1 last weekend.
