HADLEIGH & Thundersley head into tomorrow’s clash at league leaders Loughton determined to get the first of two wins they need to stave off relegation worries.
The first team are currently sixth and believe they must claim two victories from their remaining four Division One matches to beat the drop.
But Hadleigh know they will have their work cut out against a Loughton side who have only lost two of their 14 league matches this summer.
“Our target is to win two of our last four games which will then mean we will avoid relegation,” said Hadleigh spokesman Jon Wagstaff.
“We have to win those games because we cannot rely on other people and hoping results go our way.”
Harlow and Fives & Heronians currently occupy to the two relegation berths and Hadleigh are 25 points clear of ninth-placed Harlow and 27 ahead of Fives.
Wagstaff says the team knows that there will definitely be a result in those last four matches as the season reverts to the 50-over format.
But he admitted it was a catch 22 situation as to whether to bat or bowl first if skipper Adam Soilleux wins the toss.
“We must decide if we want to bat first and contain them or bowl first, but with the injuries we have to our bowlers it might put pressure on those who play,” Wagstaff added.
“Personally, I think if we can bat first and get a total of 275 that would be ideal because if we can field as well as we know we can we can beat Loughton.”
