ESSEX Eagles were knocked out of the Twenty20 Finals Day in the semi-finals after they were well beaten by Northants at Edgbaston.

Steven Crook hit a fine 46 off of 24 deliveries, and Cameron White 36 off 25, to comfortably guide the Steelbacks to 171 chasing 169 with 11 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand.

Hamish Rutherford (36) and a late flourish from Graham Napier (38no) had helped Eagles to an above par score.

But it wasn't enough and Northants progressed to this evening's final, where they will face the winners of this afternoon's clash between defending champions Hampshire and Surrey.
