MARC Laird is today expected to discover the seriousness of the knee injury he suffered during Saturday’s 2-0 win against Northampton Town.
The Blues midfielder hobbled off after an hour at Roots Hall.
And assistant manager Dave Penney is not sure how bad the injury will prove to be.
“We’re not quite sure about the injury but it was his standing leg in the tackle that he injured,” said Penney.
“It will take 24 to 48 hours to settle down and Ben Clarkson, our physio, will look at it on Monday and hopefully he’ll be OK.”
The Shrimpers were also without centre-back Mark Phillips at the weekend, who picked up a slight groin strain in training.
But he should soon be back in action.
“Mark was very close to playing,” said Penney.
“He just felt it a little bit but young (Adam) Thompson came in and was excellent.”
