Great Wakering Rovers 5, Halstead Town 0

GREAT Wakering’s Billy Johnson made it six goals from three games as he netted a hat-trick for Rovers as they thrashed Thurlow Nunn Division One side Halstead.

The striker, who missed last season through injury, put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after Ashley Hawkins was brought down by Halstead keeper Jack Cherry.

Johnson netted a second in the 50th minute with a header off the underside of the crossbar, before Billy Johnson set up Dan Trenkel for Rovers’ third in the 66th minute.

Wakering’s dominance saw Johnson secure his hat-trick with a left-footed shot in the 75th minute and Max Kent wrapped things up in the 90th minute with a goal direct from a corner.

Rovers will travel to Brentwood Town on August 31 in the premliminary round of the cup.

Basildon United 2, Southend Manor 2

MANOR were kicking themselves after missing two late chances to settle the tie at the Gardiners Close.

Yew Danso and Charlie Little were unable to capitalise after Mark Sisson equalised for Manor in the 86th minute with a flick in at the near post following a corner.

The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute when James Braithwaite tapped in at the back post from Bradley Williams’ cross.

But Basildon were back on terms four minutes later with a cracking 25-yard shot from defender Terry Martin.

Manor goakeeper Lawrence Priddle denied  Isaac Aubynn and Greg Akpele but was beaten by Tom Cocklin on the stroke of half time after the defence failed to clear the ball.

But Sisson’s equaliser means the teams do it all again at Southchurch Park on Wednesday night (kick off 7.45pm).

Hicks is Sports' hero

Woodbridge Town 0, Hullbridge Sports 2

LATE goals for substitute Harley Hicks put 10-man Hullbridge through in the cup.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 25th minute when Sam Taylor was sent off for a professional foul.

Sports thought it was a harsh decision but dominated the game despite their player deficit and saw Tom Ranger and Rhys Braney both hit the crossbar.

At the other end goalkeper Bobby Mason made a couple of good saves during what was an excellent team performance.

Hicks opened the scoring in the 85th minute when he was put through and lobbed the ball and added a second four minutes later during a scramble following a corner.

Hullbridge face a trip to FC Clacton in the next round.

Barking 3, Bowers & Pitsea 1

DEFENSIVE errors cost Bowers dearly as they made an early exit from the FA Cup.

Bowers failed to clear their lines in the 14th and 20th minutes to let Lemar Reynolds put Barking in control.

The visitors had the wind in their favour after the break and equalised in the 76th minute though Jamie Buffin, who scored after Dan Jolly had flicked on a free kick.

Bowers’ hopes of grabbing an equaliser were dashed two minutes later when Ben O’Brien pounced as Bowers again did not clear the ball.
