WHITE Ensign are hoping Paul Benson will be making a return to the club for a charity match on Tuesday evening.

The Southend-born striker spent two years with the Essex Olympian football club before joining Dagenham & Redbridge in 2005.

Ensign are staging the match in recognition of the hard work of chairman Alan Day who has been with the club since 1951.

Current Ensign players will be taking on the club’s team which won the league’s Premier Division in the 2003-4 season.

Benson, 33, was part of that side and has been given clearance by current club Swindon to play in the match.

Day was manager of the championship-winning side of that season and the match has been organised by current first team manager Paul Larke, Michael Cole, Aaron Bloxham, Steve Johnson and Roland Gibbins.

Kick off is at 7.45pm tomorrow at Ensign’s ground at the Len Forge Centre, Eastwoodbury Lane, Eastwood.

Admission is free and programmes will be available for £2. A bucket collection will also be made and proceeds will go to a charity of Day’s choice and to pay for a memento from the club in recognition of his service.

"I don't care what the scoreis as long as it is a good night for Alan," said Larke. "He deserves it for all the hard work he puts into running the club."
