HARRISON Chatting says he hopes to return to Canvey’s first-team fold after scoring a hat-trick for their reserves on Saturday.

The winger played a big part in a 4-1 victory for the second string over their Southend Manor counterparts at the Prospects Stadium.

“There were some youngsters out there and I think I was one of the oldest on the pitch!” he said.

“It was just a case of getting 90 minutes for me because I’m still nowhere near fit enough after breaking my foot in the summer.

“I probably had about 20 minutes in my legs for a first-team game so the decision was made for me to stay and build up my fitness rather than travel to Bognor.

“I enjoyed playing with the reserves; I played in the hole behind the striker, and it’s always nice to get a hat-trick.

“I now have two training sessions this week and I’m hoping to be involved with the first team on Saturday, and give Danny Heale a good option if he needs me.”

Heale is likely to welcome the chance to freshen up his squad if needed in the wake of their 5-0 mauling at Bognor on Saturday.

Chatting admits it was a shocking result.

He said: “I have not spoken to any of the players since or the manager about it, but it is very disappointing.

“Bognor are a good side and they get good support, but I couldn’t believe it when I saw the score.”

The Gulls will put out a team made up of first teamers, reserves and trialists and the match will kick off at 7.45pm.
