ROCKS were put to the sword on a visit to the high-flying Urchins.

Former Hornchurch man Leon McKenzie had gone close against his former side by hitting the side netting, but it was the hosts who took the lead when Chris Bourne hooked the ball home.

And a quick-fire double from in-form George Purcell early in the second half was enough to give the Urchins all three points and move them up to third in the table.

Billericay Town 1, Bognor Regis 2

A LAST-MINUTE winner from Terry Dodd gave 10-man Bognor victory at New Lodge.

Dodd brought the ball down from a long throw before turning and firing inside the post to break the hearts of the majority of the 409 crowd at New Lodge.

It was enough to earn the points for a Bognor side who played the second-half with 10 men after James Crane was sent off for a poor tackle on home captain Glenn Poole late in the first half.

Town had looked on course for a point after the returning Joe Benjamin latched onto a flick on from Junior Luke and rounded the keeper to cancel out Ben Godfrey’s 22nd minute headed opener for the Rocks.

But they failed to take advantage of their extra man and were punished at the death.

Canvey Island 2, Enfield Town 1

CANVEY enjoyed their first home win of the season in front of a bumper Non-League Day crowd of 461.

They took the lead from the penalty spot early in the second half when Enfield left back Michael Bardle handled inside the area, and Ty Smith confidently converted the spot kick.

They went close to a second when Ashley Dumas hit the post with a curling cross from the left flank which had beaten keeper Noel Imber.

But they did double their advantage 16 minutes from time when Sheldon Sellears’ chipped effort from the edge of the box hit the crossbar before hitting Imber on the back of the neck and trickling over the line.

Enfield Town reduced the deficit three minutes later when sub Jermaine Osei was on hand to shoot home from inside the box.

And they almost equalised late on through former Concord man Tyler Campbell, but the Gulls held on for a deserved victory.
