KEVAN Hurst wants to finally get the better of one his former teams when Southend United host Scunthorpe on Friday night.
The fit–again winger has been beaten by two of his old sides in his first three games back for the Shrimpers since recovering from a knee injury.
But he hopes to be able to put that right against the Iron, who he made 74 appearances for during a two-year spell.
“I’ve had so many former clubs that I’m always going to be playing against them at some stage but it’s funny how it’s worked out and hopefully the result on Friday will be much better,” said Hurst.
“We lost the matches against Chesterfield and Morecambe, who I’ve also played for, and the team have now lost three in a row.
“We’ve spoken about that in training though and we want that to be our bad spell because we’re aiming to get back on track on Friday.
“I enjoyed my time with Scunthorpe and have happy memories from there, winning two promotions and playing in the Championship.
“But I’m a Southend player now and there’s no room for sentiment because this is a match we need to win.”
Blues slipped to 11th in the League Two standings after being beaten 3-1 by Morecambe at the weekend.
However, Hurst’s performance was a rare bright spot in an otherwise disappointing day for Phil Brown’s side.
The 28-year-old marked his first start of the season by firing the Shrimpers in front.
And he is keen to start hitting the back of the net on a more regular basis.
“I was pleased with how many assists I got last season but not the number of goals and I want that to improve,” said Hurst, who hit the back of the net six times last season.
“It was good to score against Morecambe and good for my mind that I also played 90 minutes.
“The result was disappointing though and we have to show the right kind of character to be able to bounce back from that now.
“Our aim is to win promotion into League One this season and, despite the last few results, we’re all still confident that can be achieved.”
