CONCORD manager Danny Cowley says his side will continue to be resilient against talented sides, despite a stinging rebuke over their playing style from Eastbourne boss Tommy Widdrington.

The teams played out a goalless draw in the Conference South on Saturday and afterwards Widdrington accused the Beachboys of “parking the bus”.

“We certainly created enough chances and we knocked on the door several times but we just could not get our toe in there,” Widdrington told BBC Sussex.

“Had we done that it might have been a slightly different game, but proverbially parking the bus in front of the goal as they have done has got them a point, so you have to give Danny and his group a pat on the back for that.”

Later in the interview, the former Southend United assistant manager added: “I think you have got to respect everybody’s style of play, however, if it was played in my back garden with their style of play I’d probably shut my curtains.”

The result left newly-promoted Concord in 11th in the table and two points behind eighth-placed Eastbourne.

Concord manager Danny Cowley took to Twitter after the match to address Widdrington’s comments.

He tweeted: “Thought Eastbourne were a well organised side, trying to play the right way. Certainly can see they benefit from training full time.

“We at Concord on the other hand have our own challenges and are still finding our feet at this level.

“We’ll continue to find ways of being effective against some very talented and well-organised teams.”

Cowley’s Concord will get the chance to do exactly that tonight when they host second-placed Bromley.

The Lillywhites have five wins in the league so far this season and arrive on the back of a 3-0 home win over Staines Town at the weekend.
