SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown expects skipper John White to be fit for Saturday’s game at Bury.
The defender missed Friday night’s 1-0 defeat to Scunthorpe United with a thigh problem he suffered during the match against Morecambe.
But Brown believes White will be back for this weekend’s trip to Gigg Lane.
“John hasn’t come back to training yet but we’re hopeful he’ll be OK for Saturday’s game and that will obviously be a boost for us,” said the Shrimpers boss.
“John tweaked his thigh when he had a shot against Morecambe and the ball flew off at quite an unorthodox angle.
“It’s nothing serious but he wasn’t able to recover in time to play against Scunthorpe and I think any team would miss their captain when he’s not playing and we’re no different.
“But he should be OK for Saturday.”
Adam Thompson filled in for White at right-back against Scunthorpe and, if White does return to action, then Brown must decide whether or not to move the on-loan Watford defender into the middle of the back four or stick with Mark Phillips and Luke Prosser.
