WE’RE looking to end the bad run of results we’re on when we head to Bury this weekend.

But I’ve actually been buoyed ahead of our trip to Gigg Lane by watching the DVD of our game against Scunthorpe.

On the actual evening of the game there were some technical problems which meant we didn’t get the game recorded and we had to contact Sky Sports to get a DVD sent down.

That arrived yesterday afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised by how we played because I thought we were outstanding in the first half.

We played football in the right areas of the pitch and all that was lacking was the finishing touch in front of goal.

I would invite any supporter, journalist or anyone who has a connection with the club to come in and watch the DVD through with us because we played well.

The second half also started well, but it was disappointing how we started to play after the substitutions were made.

By then we were also 1-0 down after a mistake from Ben Coker, but mistakes are happening at all levels of the game at the moment.

During the week I went to watch Watford against Doncaster and the first two goals came courtesy of goalkeeping errors.

The third came when Doncaster’s left-back, who is being tipped to play in the Premier League, also made a mistake, so it’s happening everywhere.

We obviously want to eradicate the errors from our game when we go to Bury, who are a team with real strength in depth this season.

I drove up to watch them play at Fleetwood on Saturday and they played well in the first half.

Fleetwood came back into it after that and scored one of the best goals I’ve seen in a very long time.

Seeing Bury play live meant I was able to see their strengths and weaknesses but there’s certainly plenty of experience in their squad.

Kevin Blackwell brought in something like 22 players during the summer and with the likes of Gareth Roberts, Tommy Miller, Chris Sedgwick and Tom Soares they certainly know what they’re doing out there.

CHARACTER VITAL FOR OUR LAST SPOT

WE’RE still looking to fill the remaining spot in our squad and we have four or five irons in the fire.

We want to bring in a defender but, like I keep on saying, it’s the character of the player that matters the most to me because I think that’s what we’re lacking.

Marc Laird and Julian Bennett have both been big misses for us since they got injured and we’re working with a 17-man squad at this stage.

We’re still under a transfer embargo, but the powers that be are working tirelessly to try and get the restriction of trade lifted.

WARMING TO WINTER WORLD CUP

IT’S been interesting to read that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar could now be played in the winter instead of the summer.

And, to be honest, I think that shows how ridiculous it was that they were given the World Cup in the first place.

It was a decision which was made for the good of the people making the decisions and not for the good of the game, which isn’t right at all.

There’s no way they could play it in the summer in 50 degree heat because that would be dangerous for the players.

I remember once playing in the Sherpa Van Trophy final in ridiculously hot conditions and I actually lost eight kilos in weight in just one game.

Back then we refuelled by drinking a few pints and, although the advent of sport science has made that side of things much better, I still think the whole situation shows why it was wrong to give the World Cup to Qatar in the first place.
