GYMNAST Brinn Bevan is celebrating after winning a trio of bronze medals at the Junior Japan Invitational Competition.

The event attracted the best young gymnasts from around the world and the 16-year-old from Thundersley was in fine form.

Bevan, who trains at the South Essex Gym club at Basildon Sporting Village, finished third in the all-round competition, the parallel bars and the rings.

He also reached the finals in the floor and the pommel horse and his mother Paula revealed Bevan had been delighted by his success.

“I’ve spoken to him and he’s absolutely chuffed with how well he’s done,” said Paula.

“I was nervously waiting for the texts to come through but he’s done brilliantly and we’re all really proud of him.

“He could have finished second in the all round competition if he had not fallen off the bars, but he’s still very pleased.

“Brinn hadn’t set himself any targets before going out there. He just wanted to do the best he could do and that was enough for the three medals, which is great.”

Bevan will next be in international action when he takes part in the World School Games in Rio, which begin in late November.
