ON-LOAN Barnet midfielder Freddie Warren will be looking to help Canvey Island end their three-match losing streak when they head to Leiston tonight.

Warren made his Gulls debut in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Dulwich Hamlet.

And boss Danny Heale has already been impressed by the impact the 20-year-old has made.

“Freddie played really well at the weekend and will only get better because he hasn’t been playing for a little while,” said Heale.

“He hasn’t played for three or four weeks and he did tire because of that towards the end of the game at the weekend.

“But he’s an all-action, box-to-box midfielder and he will definitely keep his place in the team for tonight’s game.

“If he carries on like he did on his debut and he’s happy to be here then we also have an agreement to be able to extend the loan.

“However, it’s still early days and the most important thing is getting the right result tonight.”

Canvey were beaten 1-0 at Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday but Heale felt his team produced their best performance of the season so far. And, if they can match that display against Leiston tonight, then the Gulls chief is confident they can come out on top.

“Hopefully we won’t be up against another goalkeeper having the game of his life and we’ll be able to get the result,” said Heale.

“There hasn’t been a lot wrong with our performances and we just need to start getting the rub of the green a bit more.”

Canvey travel to Suffolk sitting 16th in the Ryman Premier League table, level on points with Leiston who are just one place below them. But the Gulls could well be forced into making a change at right-back as Ellis Sands is still struggling with the freak knee injury he suffered in training last week.

“Ellis fell over a pole and it ended up going through his knee,” said Heale.

“He played on Saturday but it’s still causing him problems and it’s something we’re going to have to keep assessing ahead of the game.

“But if he doesn’t make it then we have Rio Bryan Edwards available again after he recovered from the ankle injury he picked up during
