FIFTY per cent of goals at all levels of the game are scored from set pieces.

So for 50% of training this week our time has been spent working on them.

We know we’ve had a probably defending dead ball deliveries this season and we’ve now gone overboard to try and rectify the problems we’ve been having.

At training on Tuesday we put more than 20 deliveries in to both penalty areas from free-kicks and corners to improve where we’re currently falling short.

However, it’s not just us and goals are scored from set pieces at all levels of the game, including the high profile game in the Premier League on Sunday which was the Manchester derby.

But the latest set piece we conceded stopped us picking up all three points at Bury and I was very disappointed at the end of the game.

I know plenty has been made of my comments I made to the media but I don’t regret making them.

Emotions run high at the end of the game and, ever since a game I was in charge of for Hull at Arsenal when all kinds of accusations were being made, I’ve always said there should be a cooling off period for players and the managers before they have to face the press.

At the moment you have to face them straight away when you’re either very high or very low and I was obviously very low after conceding an injury time equaliser.

BEN COKER REMAINS A KEY PLAYER FOR US

BEN Coker has been a key player for us this season.

He’s been getting eight or nine out of 10 but he just needs to be able to hang on to that consistent level of performance.

He’ll be out suspended for tomorrow’s game against Bristol Rovers but we do have a few options there.

Anthony Straker can go to left back and so could Luke Prosser so it’s something I’ll be giving plenty of thought to.

But this situation again highlights that it’s a real blow to have an experienced defender like Julian Bennett out injured.

WORKING HARD TO BRING IN PLAYERS

WE’RE working tirelessly to try and bring more players to the football club and we’ve spoken to several sides in the Premier League and the Championship.

It’s hard to persuade players to drop down to this level and it’s even harder to bring in ones with the level of experience we need.

But we won’t be giving up and it would be great if we could get something sorted before the Bristol Rovers game.

Ahead of that game I’ll also be mulling over what I consider to be our best blend of strikers.

The jury is probably still out among our fans on Craig Read but all he really needs is a chance to show what we can do and he can’t wait to get out there.

Barry Corr is a threat because of his stature and size and he has a good goalscoring record at this level.

But he’s netted once in five or six starts this season and will know he’s had chances to get a few more.

Freddy Eastwood is someone who puts fear in to opposing sides by just having his name on the team-sheet because they know what he’s capable of.

Freddy went on a run of four goals in four games but that’s now probably more like four in eight but having a striker with a ratio of one goal every two games is highly sought after at this level.

We also have young Cauley Woodrow with us from Fulham who has real potential and I think we’ll see the best of him once he gets his first goal.

We just need them to start relaxed in front of goals because with the likes of Kevan Hurst back in the team now I’m sure we’re going to be creating chances for whoever does play up front.
