SOUTHEND’S director of rugby Chris Green believes bringing Karl Pryce to Warners Bridge is one of the club’s biggest ever signings.

The 27-year-old, who will make his Seasiders debut at home to Canterbury tomorrow, has bagged 83 tries during his Super League career which has seen him play for both Bradford Bulls and Wigan.

But, during the rugby league off season, he will now be playing for Southend.

And Green is certain Pryce will prove to be a big success.

“Karl has more than 80 tries and has played more than 130 games in the Super League and that says it all,” said Green.

“This is a real coup for us and it’s up there with the biggest and best signings this club has ever made.”

Pryce trained with Southend for the first time last night and is looking forward to swapping codes and getting his Seasiders career underway against Canterbury tomorrow.

“I had 18 months with Gloucester playing union and it will be good to play it again for Southend,” said Pryce, who is likely to line up at centre.

“I’ve known Chris since I was about 15 and he asked me to come in when my rugby league season ended with Dewsbury.

“I think I’ll be here for a couple of months before I have to go back and hopefully I can help the team get a few wins during that time.”

Tomorrow’s match at Warners Bridge kicks off at 3pm.
