WILL Atkinson is urging Southend United to finally turn good performances into points when they host Bristol Rovers at Roots Hall tonight.

Blues have picked up just one point from their last five matches despite producing some good displays during that time.

And Atkinson now wants the team to end the run of indifferent results.

“Football is a result-based business,” said the midfielder.

“It’s all well and good playing good football but it’s all about getting the right results and getting points on board so we can climb up the league table.

“That’s what we need to start doing tonight against Bristol Rovers.”

Blues ended a run of four successive defeats by drawing 1-1 at Bury last weekend.

And, while the Shrimpers were gutted to have conceded an injury-time equaliser from Anton Forrester, Atkinson insisted there were also some positives to take from that clash into tonight’s encounter.

“To concede in the last minute is always hard to take, especially when we were so close to getting the win we all want,” said Atkinson.

“But if you clutch at any positive it was that we ended our losing streak and we go again tonight now.”

Bristol Rovers are also heading into the game out of form after four matches without a win.

And Atkinson, who has moved back into a central midfield role in the last couple of weeks, now wants to heap more misery on the Pirates.

“They’re not in the best of form either and we want to take advantage of that,” said the midfielder.

“There’s been good and bad things for us lately but I think we’ve played well in every home game we’ve had and we want to keep that going.

“We haven’t always got the results we deserved but that’s down to us and we need to cut out the mistakes we’ve been making.”
