BEN McKeith is eager to help Westcliff continue their fine start to the London One North season at Old Haberdashers tomorrow.

Westcliff have won their first three matches of the new campaign but, after having to miss the opening day trouncing of North Walsham due to work commitments, McKeith has yet to start this term.

But he came off the bench during last weekend’s 41-27 win against Brentwood last weekend and, with Elliott Harvey unavailable tomorrow, McKeith is hoping to be named in the first 15.

“It would be great to start and help the team build on our good start to the season,” said McKeith, 29.

“Westcliff are a bit different to other clubs because the youth system we have here means the team didn’t change too much when we went up and it hasn’t changed too much since we went down either.

“We’ve had more youngsters coming through, which is great to see, and the confidence is back in the team as well.

“Last year was very tough but we’re back playing the running rugby we like and it’s been very enjoyable.”

McKeith has also been delighted to see fly half Jack Jones return to the club, even though it could mean him having to play in a different position.

“It’s great to have Jack back because he’s a quality player,” said McKeith.

“It was a big blow to lose him in the first place and I’m perfectly happy to go to wherever I’m needed in the team.

“We haven’t had a conversation just yet about who will be doing the kicking but I’m not too bothered if he wants to do it.

“He might want to concentrate on other aspects of his play but he’s the one who will be playing for this club for the next eight or nine years, not me, so it’s up to him what he wants.”

Together they will be want to secure success in the immediate future for Westcliff.

And McKeith is urging the team to take nothing for granted against an Old Haberdashers side who have yet to win this season.

“Other teams in the league will be looking at this game expecting us to win and we need to make sure it happens,” said McKeith.

“But we will have to work hard and not take our foot off the gas like we maybe did after making a bright start against Brentwood last weekend.”
