Essex Senior League round up: Great Wakering Rovers' defeat lets Enfield 1893 close the gap

GREAT Wakering Rovers slipped to a 2-1 defeat that allowed Enfield 1893 to draw level with them at the top of the Essex Senior League table.

A victory would have put Dan Trenkel’s side six points clear but the reverse means both sides are locked on 18 points, although Enfield have a game in hand.

Brandon Martin gave the Middlesex hosts the lead in 55th minute.

But Trenkel restored parity by scoring from close range in the 70th minute.

It looked as if Rovers would maintain their three-point advantage over Enfield but the hosts broke their visitors’ hearts two minutes from time when John Bricknell snatched a winning goal.

FC Romania 3, Bowers & Pitsea 2

BOWERS & Pitsea were unable to score the equaliser which would have given them a share of the spoils at FC Romania.

Instead a Sergui Pitaru hat-trick condemned Bowers to a 3-2 defeat in front of 42 fans.

Alex Tenola gave Bowers the perfect start when he put the visitors in front after just eight seconds.

But Pitaru levelled the score by netting an equaliser a minute before half-time.

And he put the hosts in front in the 46th minute before opening up a two-goal advantage as he completed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute.

Ibbi Conteh reduced the deficit three minutes later but Bowers were unable to find a third goal.

Hullbridge Sports 2, Grrenhouse London 0

HULLBRIDGE Sports moved up to eighth place in the table courtesy of a 2-0 win over Greenhouse London at Lower Road.

Jimmy Cox put Dan Braney’s side in front after 38 minutes in front of a crowd of 28.

But Hullbridge had to wait until the 90th minute before Harry Long netted their second to wrap up Sports’ third league win of the campaign.

Basildon United 2, Clapton 0

BASILDON Town’s renaissance under Laurie Carter continued with a 2-0 home win over mid-table Clapton.

Tyler Hayes had the Bees fans in an 83-strong crowd cheering in the 13th minute when he opened the scoring.

But it was not until the 67th minute that Basildon put the game beyond Clapton when Isaac Aubynn scored a second.
