WESTCLIFF’S first team manager Rick Compton was a happy man following his side’s 45-17 win at Old Haberdashers.
The victory was Westcliff’s fourth in succession to keep them top of the London One North table.
And Compton was pleased by the manner of the latest triumph.
“It was a very satisfactory afternoon,” said Compton.
“The home side were committed and provided a good test but we were able secure a valuable bonus point win while coping with unavailabilies and resting key players.
“After four games we have maximum points and are the only unbeaten side in the league as we head to next week’s home game against second-placed Ruislip.”
Westcliff went ahead at the weekend with two penalties from Ben McKeith.
But Old Haberdashers reacted well and set up drives by their forwards before also spreading play along their back line.
However, despite the occasional half break they never quite looked like breaching the Westcliff line.
They did, though, kick a penalty to reduce the arrears to 6-3, but Westcliff again forced their way up field.
Some poor decision making and dogged defence held them at bay until the final play of the half when Jon Sigwart forced his way over in the corner with the considerable assisting drive of half back Ben Jones.
The second half was all Westcliff as their enterprise and vigour brought tries swiftly.
Tim Healy bagged a brace, along with Chris Dudman while Oliver Jones and McKeith also touched down.
Haberdashers rallied briefly during extended excursion to the sin bin for the unfortunate McKeith and with the game far from their grasp managed two scores of their own to reduce the arrears.
But by then Westcliff had already done enough to extend their fine start to the season and go four points clear in the table.
