BRADLEY Smith made it back to back championship wins with a brace of victories at Donington.

The Billericay racing driver claimed the Radical Clubmans Cup last season and stepped up to the Radical SR3 Challenge this year.

And the twin wins at the Leicestershire circuit this weekend saw the Mectech Motorsport driver crowned champion with a round to go.

“It’s good to get the title, but I have to thank the team for all the hard work and the all-nighters throughout the year, plus my dad in the workshop and Eneos and Momo for backing me,” said Smith.

“I am not sure what I will be doing next year yet, but I will be happy as long as I am racing.”

Smith has dominated the championship this season with a string of pole positions and race wins.

And he qualified on pole again by just under a second for race one but braked too hard on the final hairpin, Goddards, and missed out on pole for the second race by 100th of a second.

Smith built up a lead in the first race but dropped to second after being the first driver to pit.

The Essex driver closed the gap on race leader Paddy McClughan and tried to overtake him at Goddards.

The pair were side by side through the hairpin, but Irish teenager McClughan defended well and Smith had to wait until the climb to McLeans before making his decisive move which put him in front, before finishing 2.577secs ahead.

At the start of the second race Smith was forced to give best to poleman Phil Keen into Redgate, before slotting back into second.

Smith pitted first from second place, but unlike in race one, he rejoined within striking distance of Peter Belshaw, who had taken over Keen for the lead. It only took three laps and Smith was back in front. He increased his lead over the remaining eight laps to take the chequered flag a huge 17 seconds ahead of the field.
