CONCORD Rangers secured an impressive 1-1 draw at table topping Eastleigh.
Concord showered great resilience throughout the game and went in front in the 17th minute when Eastleigh goalkeeper Ross Flitney was unable to hold on to a Sam Collins’ shot and Leon Gordon was on hand to tap home.
Eastleigh pressed hard for an equaliser and, after goalkeeper Jamie Butler had made two good saves to deny them, it came in the 34th minute.
Stuart Fleetwood held off the challenge of a couple of defenders to set up former King John School pupil Jai Reason who scored with a well executed low shot in to the bottom corner.
In the second half, Butler made more good saves to deny both Fleetwood and Reason but Concord did have some respite from the pressure with Flitney tested twice in a two minute spell which also featured a crucial block by home defender to deny Sam Collins.
Eastleigh had more than enough chances to win the game and one goalmouth scramble in injury time seemed certain to produce a goal.
But the ball stayed out and Concord were able to hang on to secure an excellent point.
Concord remain in the 10th in the standings and are back in FA Cup action this weekend as they host Histon in the third qualifying round of the competition.
