BIG fish have been snagged at Stanford’s The Warren lakes.
Gary Borja hooked carp of 29lb 8oz and 28lb.
The slightly smaller carp came out on Friday from the main lake with and Borja bagged the even bigger fish a couple of days later.
Pike angler Mike Towney had his third 20lb-plus fish for January with a fine specimen of 27lb. He was using deadbait and fishing on the pier.
Stanford’s Square Lake is still producing good numbers of carp to 18lb.
And there are also bream to 5lb plus roach and perch. One lucky angler had more than 100 roach in an session fishing maggots on the waggler.
His companion fished in the next swim and only caught 14 roach and perch. But he also landed a surprise tench of 5lb.
Last week the best time for snagging fish was afternoon sessions. Due to the high water levels most swims in the match lake are currently unfishable, with the others only able to be fished with considerable care.
