THE end of the regular league season is just the forerunner to an exciting post season for four of Southend Swifts national league teams.
The under-14 boys and the three girls teams (under-14s, under-16s and under-18s) all have further opportunities to continue in action, with the prize a place in the Final Fours in Sheffield at the beginning of May.
Swifts’ chairman Paul May said: “It’s been another outstanding season for the club.
“In fact, had our under-16 and under-18 boys not found themselves meeting very tough opposition from London almost every week, there would have been every chance that all six teams could have made it through.
“The fact that our under-16 boys are the only team to have defeated national champions Peckham shows how they have progressed and we are all disappointed they have not had the opportunity for further action.”
The play-off format differs amongst the teams based on the league formats. Under-14 boys and under-16 girls both had four separate divisions, so there are two rounds to reach the big dance.
The first round is this weekend, with the boys first in action making the trip to Worthing Thunder, who were the unbeaten winners of the South One division.
On Sunday, the under-16 girls have a home fixture against Stockport Lapwings, who were fourth in the North conference, with a 2pm start.
May added: “While we are obviously thrilled with the success of individual teams, the club as a whole have had a sensational season. Our numbers, and indeed enquiries to play, continue to grow and that augurs well for our future.”
