Basildon Freestyle Kickboxing Club is set to host its first large show for years this weekend.
The club will be holding a competition for juniors on Sunday morning, with teenagers and senior fighters taking to the ring in the evening at the Holiday Inn hotel in Basildon.
Club chief Ricky Judd is delighted the show is returning and is looking forward to welcoming competitors from other Essex clubs, Kent and Norfolk.
“We have been doing smaller shows every March or April but we have gone for a bigger show this year as we have not done one for a number of years,” said Judd.
“We are lacking senior members at the club nowadays but the club is full of youngsters.
“There are plenty of shows for them but there isn’t much for intermediate level fighters without going to a big show. They can be training without putting it into practice apart from sparring.
“We are hoping that the show will be help to bridge that gap.”
Doors open for the junior event at 11am, with fights starting at noon. There will be around 35 bouts featuring youngsters up to around 15 years old.
The evening show gets underway at 6pm (doors open 5pm), and will feature fighters in their late teens and seniors.
Tickets are available on the door and cost £8 for adults and £5 for children under 12 for the junior event and £15 for adults and £10 for under-12s for the evening show.
Children aged four and under get in free of charge and tickets for both shows cost £20 for adults and £12 for under-12s. The event has been sponsored by Basildon Market management company DTCM.
