WE’RE in good shape at the moment and those 13 matches we had without a win seem an awful long time ago now.

At the start of the week I got together with Dave Penney, Graham Coughlan and our chief scout Bob Shaw to all have a chat about things and we all spoke about what we learnt from that winless streak.

It wasn’t a nice time for any of us but what became apparent was that we have a very good group of players who never lost their belief.

That was a very encouraging sign and, while we’re not getting carried away, it’s been fantastic to have won our last three games.

Saturday was a great day because most of the sides in and around dropped points while we were able to win 2-1 at Cheltenham Town.

It was also great for a couple of the old brigade to step forward and get the goals.

Much has been made of their five loan players we have here and the impact they have made so it was nice for Barry Corr and Kevan Hurst to show the players contracted to us are equally as important.

It does give me more selection headaches for the game against AFC Wimbledon this weekend but that’s exactly what you want as a manager.

TALKING TO OUR ON LOAN PLAYERS

WE’RE focusing on the games we have coming up at the moment but I have been talking to all of the players we have here on loan about our future plans.

I’ve told them all about what we want to achieve and what we want to change for next season.

But the bottom line is it will be easier for us to keep these types of players if we get promotion so that has to remain at the forefront of our minds.

HILLSBOROUGH STILL VIVID IN MY MEMORY

OUR game against AFC Wimbledon this weekend is kicking off at 3.07pm as a tribute to those fans who tragically lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster 25 years ago.

I remember that day as it was yesterday and had been playing in a game myself.

We had heard there had been crowd trouble but it wasn’t until we saw the news on television when we realised what had actually happened.

It was horrible to see and certainly one of the worst days football has ever had.

With that in mind, I think it would be nice for Liverpool to win the Premier League this season in memory of those 96 fans who died at Hillsborough.

I HAD FUNNY FEELING THAT CHELSEA WOULD SEE OFF PSG

IT was great to Chelsea turn things around against Paris Saint-Germain and I always had a funny feeling they might do it.

It was fantastic to see Jose Mourinho’s celebrations after the second goal went in and everything he does is pure box office.

The interview with Demba Ba was quite frosty and gripping as well but I only got to see the end of the game as I went along to watch Braintree against Macclesfield Town.

Alan Devonshire is doing a fantastic job there this season and I’ve been along to two or three of their games.

It’s always nice to get to a game and it was a good chance to take a look at a couple of their players who have been doing well.

There are also some league players on loan at Macclesfield who have been pulling up trees so I wanted to see them live with a view to maybe bringing them in for next season.
