SOUTHEND centre Chris Vaughan is urging his side to take nothing for granted against bottom of the table Exmouth in National Two South tomorrow.

The already relegated Devon outfit have lost 14 of their last 15 games.

But Vaughan is adamant they will still be tough to play against this weekend.

“I'm expecting a hard game because Exmouth managed to beat Cambridge at home the other week so that shows what they can be capable of,” said the former King John School pupil.

“We also know there are no bad teams in the league this year so if we don't turn up mentally it could be a long day.”

However, eighth placed Southend will be making the long journey in good spirits after beating Bournemouth 57-26 at Warners Bridge in their last outing.

Vaughan helped the Seasiders secure their fourth win in five games by bagging a brace of tries.

But he was still not completely satisfied at the end at the end of the game.

“I ended up with mixed feelings because while it was good to get the win and five points we could have scored three or four more tries,” said Vaughan.

“Our composure and skills let us down and we also set a high standard in defence so for Bournemouth to score that many points wasn't good enough.

“Personally, it’s always nice to score tries but I really have Brad Burr to thank for both them to be honest.”

The victory pushed Southend to within six points of sixth placed Cambridge who they host at Warners Bridge next weekend.

And Vaughan is keen to keep the pressure on the sides immediately above them in the table.

“We want to win every game we have left and try to get five points in all of them too because then we could be looking at a top six finish,” said the centre.

“But it’s been a good, enjoyable season.

“We have been a little inconsistent but have also put in some really good performance against some good side especially away from home which we have struggled to do in past seasons.

“Hopefully we can produce another one tomorrow and make sure we enjoy a positive end to the season.”
