DANNY Cowley says he will use Saturday’s chastening defeat to “galvanize” his side in their chase for the play-offs.
The Concord Rangers boss was sent from the stands in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Havant & Waterlooville, after a penalty decision dubbed “the worst I have ever seen” saw his side lose to one of their main play-off rivals.
The defeat meant Concord dropped to eighth in the division, four points off the final play-off place, but Cowley says he is still confident of a top-five finish.
The Beachboys’ face another stiff test tonight when they take on Ebbsfleet United, who currently lie in 4th place in the Skrill South.
Cowley said: “We need to forget about Saturday. We lost because something happened that was out of our control and, as frustrating as that is, we need to look forward and focus on the next game.
“Ebbsfleet are a terrific side and looked about two league’s better than us when they beat us in the reverse fixture, so we are under no illusions about how difficult this game will be.
“Saying that, we have been pulling up trees all season and teams aren’t underestimating us anymore. We have taken this battle to the last two weeks of the season and it is full credit to the boys, who have developed this ‘never say die’ attitude. We are a small club with a big heart.”
The Skrill South side face a formidable end to the campaign with games against Dover Athletic and Sutton United, fifth and second respectively, in the next six days.
Cowley said: “This is the time to stand up and show what we are made of.
“When we won promotion the boys knew they would have to give up more of their time and travel further and we have risen to every challenge posed to us. We can do it.”
